Compared with similar paperboard, coated paperboard can be used for more end-use applications. Various types of films provide a variety of key properties, such as humidity control, sealing characteristics, air tightness, light resistance, oxygen permeability, aroma barrier, heat resistance, peelability and grease resistance.

Therefore, if you want to package food, liquid or anything that needs sealed packaging and effective protection, including perishable food, our protective coated paperboard will be very suitable. The film is made of high-quality polymer and can be coated on one or both sides of the paperboard according to the end use.

Industry leading full range of packaging protection products

We use extrusion coating and extrusion coating technology and proprietary coating formula that can optimize the coating, so we only need a thin layer of polymer to achieve the required protection. The product can still be made of renewable raw materials to a large extent, usually 80-95%, but for plant-based film, even 100% renewable raw materials can be used. We offer all products for you to choose from.

So, how do you choose the right film? It depends on the type of product to be packaged and the level of protection and performance required. Stora Enso has many years of professional experience in the field of membrane and provides optimized solutions for all possible end uses.

PE film

PE (or polyethylene) is the most commonly used coating material. Polyolefin Coatings, such as low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) polymers, provide excellent moisture resistance. In addition to the traditional PE film, we also provide PE green film, which is made of renewable plant materials, so we can provide you with 100% renewable and recyclable protective packaging.

Typical end use: beverage cups and packaging for frozen food, ice cream and yogurt. HDPE coated paperboard is suitable for humidity sensitive dry food.

Biodegradable film "bio"

Biodegradable film is a customized polymer with moisture, oxygen and oil barrier and sealing properties. Our biodegradable film can be used as compost. However, biopolymer coated paperboard is also easy to recycle, which is usually the preferred waste option.

Biopolymers can be produced from natural crops or fossil materials. The key is that the coated paperboard will eventually decompose into carbon dioxide and humus. If you choose our biopolymer coated paperboard, the product is recyclable, or it can be collected into industrial compost together with other compostable waste.

Our biopolymer film can replace the traditional PE film in almost all applications! Typical end use: beverage cups, plates, trays and cartons for fresh food, salads, sandwiches and dairy products.

Dispersion protective coating "solo"

Dispersion is a new coating option without traditional coating. Good sealing characteristics can ensure service performance. The advantage of dispersion is that the output of recycled fiber is high.

Typical end use: paper cups and ice cream packaging for hot and cold drinks

Pet coating

PET provides protective coatings and other functions. The black or white pet coating with heat resistance can be used as an excellent oil barrier and has reliable WVTR (moisture permeability) performance.

Typical end uses: oven trays, reheatable product packaging and baked products.

PP coating

PP, or polypropylene coating, provides the heat resistance required by microwave oven and is also suitable for deep freezing. Good sealing characteristics can ensure service performance.

Typical end use: cups and trays for microwave ovens and frozen food.

High protective film "Barr"

Our patented high protective film consists of multilayer EVOH and PE polymer structures. The coating provides excellent oxygen, humidity and aroma barrier. High protective coated paperboard and paper are also oil resistant.

Typical end uses: fine food, chocolate, grains and dairy products. Dry foods such as sweets, salty and processed snacks, coffee and tea, milk and cocoa powder. Liquid products, such as juice, soft drinks, green tea, water, soup, dessert and wine.

High protective film "oxy Barr Al"

Oxy Barr al has oxygen resistance. It has an aluminum laminate on one side of the paperboard, and PE coating can be selected on the printing surface.

Typical end use: coffee and other very sensitive foods.

Metallized coating

Silver plated metal PET film on one side of the cardboard is used to create an excellent visual appearance and a sense of luxury.

Typical end uses: luxury packaging, cosmetics, perfume, wine and spirits.

All in all, our extensive film selection enables you to optimize protection, control odor and prolong the shelf life of products. You will get the most economical packaging solution and excellent performance, while benefiting from the excellent printing and processing performance of our paperboard. You can increase the proportion of renewable materials in packaging, minimize the use of non renewable materials, realize effective recycling, reduce waste as much as possible and reduce the impact of packaging on the environment.
